The journey from a graduate to a PPC specialist isn't always a straight line. Sometimes you have to send out 200 resumes first. But when it works out, it’s totally worth it.

The journey from a graduate to a PPC specialist isn't always a straight line. Sometimes you have to send out 200 resumes first. But when it works out, it’s totally worth it.

When I finished my bachelor's degree in marketing communications, I envisioned my next step to be a master's degree abroad. But things don't always go according to plan—and so I found myself back home, searching for a new direction.

I tried a bit of everything—from administration and marketing support to events and social media management. Until I finally made a decision: "I'll try my luck in Prague." I packed my bags, moved, and dove into the job hunt in marketing. An intense job hunt. After four months, more than 200 sent resumes, and a few interviews, I finally got the response I was really hoping for—from Marketup.

Three rounds of interviews followed. And then it came—an offer for the position of Junior PPC Specialist. I accepted.

The First Day, Onboarding, and Everything at Once I joined Marketup on December 1st. A new environment, new faces, new acronyms. Google Ads? Sure. But what is Funnel? And what about all these processes? The first few days went by in a blur. My head was buzzing with new information, but the onboarding was set up so practically that I quickly found my bearings.

Step by step, I learned how the agency works, what is expected of me, and what role I will play in the team.

From Google Ads to Looker: What I Do as a Junior Today, I work with platforms like Google Ads, Bing, Meta, Sklik, and LinkedIn. Every day I learn something new—setting up campaigns, analyzing performance, optimizing, reporting. We play around with data in Funnel and Looker, where we also experiment with automation. It’s like a puzzle—every piece has to fit together to make sense.

The First Client = A Healthy Dose of Respect After a month came the challenge—my own client. NIJ Clinics. I remember the sense of responsibility and respect I felt when I was about to contact the client for the first time. But the team reassured me: "We wouldn't give you a client if we didn't believe in you." That sentence really supported me.

Gradually, I also got involved in other projects—ABB, AXA CZ/SK, Accolade Funds, CRGH, and Repromed. Every brand is different, every brief brings new challenges. And that’s what makes it so much fun.

The Team is the Foundation If I had to highlight one thing that makes Marketup special, it’s the team. People here are helpful, friendly, and always ready to give advice. I’ve never felt like I was on my own with anything—and in an environment where you are constantly learning, that is priceless.

My Message to Anyone Considering a Similar Path If you’re drawn to marketing and have a desire to learn, working in an agency will give you a tremendous amount of experience. It’s not always easy, but it’s definitely worth it. You’ll grow quickly and gain a solid foundation that you can lean on wherever your career takes you next.
